2011 National Aboriginal and Islander Children’s Day – a snapshot

Some 75 guests attended the national launch of NAICD at Lulla’s Children and Family Centre in Shepparton, Victoria. They were treated to unseasonal warm weather, a buffet lunch and a performance of traditional dancing by local Koori youth.

Cindy Blackstock visited Australia once again and spoke to ABC Breakfast Radio about the common issues faced by First Nations children and families in Canada and Australia.

Cindy spoke to ABC Breakfast Radio about the common issues faced by First Nations children and families in Canada and Australia. She told the ABC that in both countries Indigenous children are over-represented in the child protection system and that the problem is solvable by tackling underlying issues such as poverty, poor housing and substance misuses related to the Stolen Generations.
