Workshop Micro-Grants - Through Young Black Eyes Workshop Kit: call for expressions of interest

29 April 2009

The deadline for expressions of interest is the 15 May 2009

Grants will support the running of 8-12 workshops nationwide, allowing micro grants of $5,000 - $10,000 per workshop.

The SNAICC Resource Service (SRS) has received some additional funding from the Australian Government under the Parenting Appropriation – Invest to Grow Program to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisations to run workshops addressing family violence and/or the development of child-safe communities, using SNAICC’s Through Young Black Eyes (TYBE) Workshop Kit.

Through Young Black Eyes Workshop Kit

Through Young Black Eyes Workshop Kit contains a set of resources to assist communities to run workshops about family violence.
The kit includes information and activity sheets, posters, pamphlets and short films - all of which can be adapted to suit local community needs.

It is anticipated that workshops would take two main forms. Either:

  1. Workshops with community members to discuss family violence and/or commence work towards the development of a community safety plan. It is anticipated that such workshops may form the first of a series of discussions and consultations and that these micro grants would ‘kick off’ the process.
  2. Workshops with staff and/or community leaders to discuss and plan possible uses for the kit, taking a ‘train-the-trainer’ approach, or similar.

If you have other ideas for running a workshop, you are welcome to apply.

Who can apply?

SNAICC wishes to engage local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisations to facilitate workshops using the Through Young Black Eyes Workshop Kit.
To receive a mirco grant, organisations will need to meet the following criteria:

  • You must be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisation.
  • You need be able to complete/run your workshop using the Through Young Black Eyes Workshop Kit before 30 September 2009.
  • You need to get your Expression of Interest form (see below) to us by 15 May 2009.
  • You must agree to provide feedback to us on how the workshop/s went (for example, how many attended your workshop/s, when it was held, etc.).

SNAICC will endeavour to engage a range of services and ensure geographic spread across the country. If you think other organisations in your area might also apply, this means it may be better to work together and put in a shared Expression of Interest.

If SNAICC receives greater interest that we can support, priority will be given to full members, associate members and affiliate members of SNAICC.

How to apply

  • Step 1 - Complete the Expression of Interest form and email, fax or post it back to us.
  • Step 2 - If your Expression of Interest meets the above criteria, Catriona Elek, SNAICC Resource Service Manager phone you by 30 May to complete this of the application. This will involve discussing your plans and ideas in more detail, as well as discussing a more detailed proposed budget.
